Portraits

Since last week I new that my two daughters, a boy named Allen and his mother Mina went to a Balloon and Craft Festival so I wanted to take lots of pictures. After I was tired of taking pictures I ended up taking close to 300 pictures. The troubles I was having was the sun kept going in and out and I would forget to change the setting on my camera to take a picture picture. Another problem I was having was I was my hands kept shaking like crazy. The way I would solve the issue of shaking was lean up against something or hope and pray I didn't move when taking the picture.

Now the next two are of my daughters again but I took them to pick a spot they wanted me to take a picture. Eva the younger one day she wanted me to take pictures of her by the apple tree by her school. For that picture I ended up taking about 12 pictures and this is the one I picked of her looking up at the tree which was to high for her to touch. The second pictures is of Alexis's she wanted me to take a picture out side our home where I recently took a picture of Eva and shared with everyone a few weeks back. She picked her favorite dress. For that picture I took about 15 different pictures using different angles to see what kind of lighting I had. The only problem I was having was she wouldn't stay still. So I took as many pictures I could.

  1. I like the picture of Allen resting because you've made such great use of complimentary colors between his shirt and the hot air balloon. There are also some wonderful lines running back and forth across the image that frame your subject, break up the image, and draw the viewer's eyes across the image.

That being said, I think my favorite picture is of your daughter, Eva, looking up at the tree. There's a sense of childlike wonder about her expression which draws me in. The composition breaks the rule of thirds by dividing the image roughly in half, but it works well here, and the contrast of the darker colors collecting in the lower right while the brighter parts of the photo coalesce in the upper left gives a great sense of balance. You've also given space for your subject to look into, and because we don't see the tree in the photo is allows the viewer's mind to wonder about what she's really looking at with such an expression--perhaps a parent, a pony, an out-of-reach toy or cookie?

  3. I am loving all of these. You've got a flair for capturing people and expressions. The first one with the potter's wheel is fantastic, the same goes for the girl with the balloon. All around great work. I'm jealous.
